Rafe's One month update!
Our Rafeybear is now four weeks and five days old! Richard is off of work this week so we are planning on starting to try and introduce a sleep routine...I do not have high expectations on this being overly successful, one of our many baby books states to wait until at least six weeks before attempting this, but never the less we are going to give it a go! I'll keep you posted!
By way of sleep we have a had a bad patch, Tuesday night and Wednesday night Rafe would not go to sleep. He was irritable (as was I) and hard to settle. We think he may have had gas because even though we endeavour to burp him after every feed we don't always get results. We tried using 'Infacol' which definitely helped him produce some burps and although we do not use it every day he still seems to find it easier.
It was not just the night that he would not settle he just wanted to feed and be cuddled all day. Thursday I did not even have the chance to have a shower until Richard got home at five. I did research online and suspected silent reflux but he has been fine the last couple of days. I am now sitting him up for twenty minutes after every feed which seems to have helped. Defintely recommend Infacol, we were using Dentinox Colic relief drops but the Infacol smells a lot better and although Rafe does not seem that impressed by either he seems to spit less of the Infacol out!
Out of desperation I did try giving Rafe a dummy/pacifier, this did not go down well and he immediately spat it out.
He definitely seems more alert recently and seems to spend more time awake studying his surroundings. He can focus on people and objects a lot better and when someone moves he can follow them around the room. He also seems to make more noises (not just crying) when we talk to him he grunts and makes sounds which I think are his attempts ar responses although obviously he has no idea what we are saying!
Even when he is asleep he makes little sounds and little facial expressions. We think he must be having baby dreams! Talking of facial expressions he definitely smiles! Not just gas smiles either these are the real deal! Makes all the tears and smelly nappies worth while when you get a little smile out of him.
Rafe still has baby acne on his face. I started using pure coconut oil on it twice a day after his top and tailing and after bathtime and after a couple of days it seemed to improve a bit. I have since switched to using Calendula cream but I haven't noticed as much of a difference and spots have returned so I would recommend the coconut oil over this. The more natural the better aswell.
In terms of appearance his eyes are still deep blue and his light brown baby hair is not showing any signs of falling out. Richards is very blonde with blue eyes and I am brunette with brown eyes so we are intrigued to find out what Rafe's features will be like. It looks like he has a little brown speck in his left iris so I kind of hope his eyes go brown like mummy's! His face seems to get chubbier by the day but the rest of him seems to be catching up now! Probably due to his massive appetite! He eats at least every two hours during the day (when he's not cluster feeding...then it's non stop!) and every three to four hours at night. I don't find out how much he actually weighs until the next visit from the health visitor which is tomorrow but I can't wait to find out. I am still exclusively breastfeeding him and I am planning on continuing for another two months if I can, however if he is not gaining enough weight I will start supplementing with formula.
He also feels a lot stronger and kicks his legs more and can almost hold his head up. We think he's going to be a little athelete!
He still loves bathtime and sitting in his swing, we got him the Joie Serina swivel swing which vibrates, swings and plays noises. He only likes the low swing setting but it definitely helps settle him. He may not look like he loves his swing in this picture...but I promise he does!He definitely seems to be changing and growing so quickly and although a part of me cannot wait for him to be able to walk and talk another part wants me to stay little like this forever!
